Providing Hope and Healing!
Providing Hope and Healing!
HOPEFUL FUTURES.
HEALED HEARTS.
INDEPENDENT LIVING.
As we are in the initial planning stages, Dessyre’ of Hope is forming to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of services affecting youth and young adults in our communities. Our organization will collaborate with schools, governmental agencies, faith-based and other nonprofit agencies with similar focus to offer programs, services, and resources that will include but not be limited to the areas of physical health, mental health, and social and emotional well-being to educate communities, provide resources, and promote awareness that will end generational Adverse Childhood Experiences and the need for the foster care system one child at a time. We believe that we are better together.
Dessyre’ of Hope provides programs, services, and resources for at-risk youth and young adults between the ages of 12-21 who have had Adverse Childhood Experiences, as well as individuals who are aging out of the foster care system so that they can successfully transition to independent, self-sufficient adults.
Collaboration: We encourage strategic collaboration to bring out the best solutions and strengthen the fabric of our communities as we all contribute to creating a just and equitable society.
Excellence: We challenge ourselves to do great work. We actively seek feedback to continually improve and evolve our practices and services to ensure the greatest possible impact on the youth we serve in our communities.
Service: We are responsive and flexible. We are diverse and inclusive. We build relationships. We meet people where they are, developing experiences, content, and outcomes that advance youth toward independence.
Stewardship: We are effective stewards of the financial and human resources.

More Facts
Adverse Childhood Experiences defined: Adverse Childhood Experiences are negative moments or events that have the potential to leave lasting harmful effects.
FACTS ABOUT ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES
ACEs—commonly defined as 10 types of child abuse, neglect, and family exposure to toxic stress — are a complex population health problem with significant detrimental outcomes. The ACEs are
(1) emotional abuse
(2) physical abuse
(3) sexual abuse
(4) emotional neglect
(5) physical neglect
(6) mother treated violently
(7) household substance abuse
(8) household mental illness
(9) parental separation or divorce and
(10) incarcerated household member.
Trauma Defined: A traumatic event is a frightening, dangerous, or violent event that poses a threat to a child’s life or bodily integrity. Witnessing a traumatic event that threatens the life or physical security of a loved one can also be traumatic. This is particularly important for young children as their sense of safety depends on the perceived safety of their attachment figures.
Research Says: Adverse childhood experiences are common and have a tremendous impact on health and social outcomes. As such, they present a clear public health challenge with implications for the entire lifespan and every domain of health and wellbeing. They also present a critical opportunity for prevention, not only of the childhood adversity itself, but the host of negative physical, behavioral, and mental health outcomes that follow.
