Mentor’s Training

July 25, 2026

Individuals interested in serving as mentors must complete a mandatory background check, provide two references, and participate in a comprehensive training designed to prepare them for effective youth engagement. Training topics include relationship-building, active listening, communication skills, youth development, trauma-informed practices, professional boundaries, confidentiality, mandated reporting, and youth safety.

Participants will also receive training on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and resilience, including how childhood experiences can affect development, behavior, health, and learning. The training explores protective factors, positive childhood experiences, and practical strategies that help youth build resilience and thrive.

This training equips mentors with the knowledge, skills, and ethical responsibilities necessary to build safe, supportive, and meaningful relationships with youth while promoting positive outcomes and lasting impact.

Dessyré of Hope Open House
July 29, 2026 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Palmetto Electric Cooperative Community Room | Ridgeland, SC

The purpose of the Dessyré of Hope Open House is to introduce the community to our mission, vision, and upcoming programs designed to support youth and young adults in achieving hopeful futures, healed hearts, and independent living. Guests will have an opportunity to learn about the Becoming Mentoring Program, Hopeful Financial Futures Financial Literacy Program, volunteer and partnership opportunities, and ways to support our work through community involvement and charitable giving.

This event will also provide an opportunity to meet members of our Board of Directors, Youth Advisory Board, volunteers, and community partners while learning how Dessyré of Hope is working to strengthen youth development, build resilience, and create positive generational impact throughout Jasper County and surrounding communities.

In addition to program information and networking opportunities, the Open House will feature a silent auction and fundraising activities to help support the launch and sustainability of our youth-focused initiatives. Together, we can help young people move from surviving to thriving and build stronger futures for generations to come.
